ARRI Senior Colorist Florian “Utsi” Martin was at the center of a focused and insightful learning event recently hosted at FutureWorks in Mumbai. Bringing together Directors of Photography and colorists from across India's film and streaming landscape, the day offered a clear look at how next-generation color workflows are taking shape and how they can be applied on real productions.

Co-organized with ARRI, FilmLight, and Cineom, the event was designed to give India's cinematography and post-production communities direct access to current thinking in color science, camera technology, and set-to-post collaboration.

A practical look at ARRI's evolving toolset

Utsi led the full-day program, sharing his experience from global productions and his hands-on work with ARRI's newest tools. His sessions covered:

  • ARRI Film Lab – an overview of the application's capabilities and how it supports more consistent color management from capture through final grade.
  • Alexa 35 Xtreme updates – new features and how they contribute to greater flexibility on set.
  • ES Mode – practical guidance on when it is most effective and how to integrate it smoothly into production and post workflows.

Throughout the sessions, Utsi emphasized clarity and consistency – showing how thoughtful choices early in production can create more predictable, creative outcomes in the grade.

For FutureWorks, the event was part of a broader effort to strengthen communication between cinematographers and colorists. As productions in India become more ambitious and rely on increasingly sophisticated imaging pipelines, having a shared approach to color decisions is becoming essential.

The strong turnout from DPs and senior colorists highlighted the appetite for forums where creative and technical teams can align on workflows, terminology, and expectations. India's film and streaming industries are growing rapidly, with more projects aiming for global distribution. This shift calls for reliable, modern workflows that handle diverse shooting conditions, higher dynamic range, and more complex finishing requirements.

We're grateful to everyone who joined us and contributed to an open, useful exchange of ideas. Thanks to our partners at ARRI, FilmLight, and Cineom for helping create a day that was both informative and practical.
